Hortatory exposition

Hortatory exposition is a type of persuasive English text.

Usually, this type of text is used to explain to the reader something that is allowed or not to be done.

This type of text is of course formal and must also be written based on facts.

Not surprisingly, you can usually find this type of text in scientific journals, magazines, articles, newspapers, academic speeches, and scientific books.


Hortatory Exposition Structure

To write using hortatory exposition, there is a writing structure that you need to know. Among others are:

Thesis

Thesis is the first part in writing this type of text. Authors can express opinions or opinions that are relevant and based on facts about the issue or theme that they want to write about.


Arguments

To strengthen the opinion or opinion of the author, other opinions or arguments are also needed to prove that the opinion of the author is in accordance with the facts.

In this section the author can include recommendations, opinions of others, or trusted sources to support the opinions that have been written in the beginning.


Recommendation

If the analytical exposition has a conclusion, it is different from the hortatory exposition.

The last part of this paper contains recommendations for its readers.

Recommendations can contain suggestions of what to do or not to do based on the arguments or opinions that have been given by the author.


Characteristics of Hortatory Exposition

To identify or make an article with the type of hortatory exposition, there are characteristics that can be learned.

-Have writing that focuses on the author.

-Using abstract nouns, such as: culture, policy, advantage, and so on.

-The writing always uses action verbs, such as: value, ask, tell, argue, and so on.

-Thinking verbs are also always used in hortatory exposition writing. Thinking verb is a verb related to thinking activities, such as: think, worry, wonder, and so on.

-Temporal conective is also used in writing with this type of text. Temporal connective is a phrase that relates to time. For example: firstly, secondly, and others.

-Sentences are written using passive sentences because they have a first point of view, namely the author.

-The grammar used is simple present tense aka using verb 1.
